The year started with a clear and defining move of the Lord in Newton as almost 50 high school teens from three congregations shared one weekend retreat in January at Rock Springs Ranch. As the kids and youth leaders from these three congregations came together to share one message (Do Hard Things), seek Him and worship Him, He joined them in tangible ways, leading to a breakthrough for each person present - youth or adult! Earlier, some on the Missional Church Network Round Table (the LC2C partner) had felt that the Lord was nudging them to focus more on youth this year. The experience at Rock Springs confirmed it with exclamation marks!

Kansas City Church Helps “Hidden Homeless.” In 2009, River Christian Fellowship purchased a $16 million vacant hospital for $1 million and is working to convert it to the River of Refuge Dream Center, a 150,000-square-foot facility with 350 beds. The center will offer an alternative living situation for many working poor or "hidden homeless" who are currently living in pay-by-the-week motels.

Church Blesses Its Community in Newton:  HOPE Fest was held in Newton, Kansas, in July, helping to connect Harvey County residents with community resources. The event included activities for kids, free services and products like medical screenings and haircuts, job search help and more. The Missional Church Network, a Loving Our Communities to Christ partner, sponsored the event. Director Timothy Conner said, "There are many local agencies and organizations ready, willing and able to help folks find the support they need to take steps toward a better life," he said. "HOPE Fest is 'one-stop shopping' to explore the options and connect with these services, but it's also a fun festival great for all ages."
