September 2010
Phoenix Area Churches Prepare for Outreach. Church and ministry leaders throughout Arizona will gather in Phoenix for a night of prayer and encouragement with world evangelist Luis Palau in October. The event will kick off "Season of Service Impact Days," a prayer-care-share initiative that sets apart separate days for specific efforts including school beautification, a food drive, neighborhood revitalization, homelessness impact, family well-being and more. The Season of Service will culminate in the citywide evangelistic outreach "Arizona CityFest" in March.

A leadership team is emerging for Loving Our Communities to Christ in Phoenix, and new relationships are continually being built. As a result of preparation for the Luis Palau festival and the Season of Service, leaders of every level are connecting to the pray-care-share vision. Many are building lasting care relationships through the Season of Service activities.

Christian Emergency Network (CEN) is coaching Phoenix, Arizona, in its establishment of several CEN Chapters. The Chapters are launching local Ready Church campaigns to equip and train Christians to respond to emergencies of any kind and size with a pray-care-share approach. CEN is encouraging believers to be aware, ready, and available to minister in crisis situations, knowing many will be introduced to Jesus Christ.

A significant part of city-reaching strategy is recognizing where God is already working and joining Him there. In Phoenix, God continues to rise up collaborative efforts that encourage pray-care-share initiatives. Last fall, churches and Christian ministries invited Ravi Zacharias to an outreach event on the Arizona State University campus. "Is Faith Delusional?" was discussed at an Open Forum attended by nearly 9,000 people from campus and community. This was the largest event in the 25-year history of Ravi's ministry, and he plans to use it as a model for future Forums. Many students were challenged by the discussion.

The Luis Palau Festival scheduled for March 2011 in Phoenix had its official launch with the endorsement of hundreds of churches and ministires. The focus is to pray intensively, reach out in loving service, and also present the gospel in clear and relevant ways and elevating the pray-care-share philosophy. Coach John Quam reports excitement about a growing spirit of collaboration. The presence of the Church in the midst of crises opens doors for the sharing of the gospel and church growth -- that's what Loving Our Communities to Christ is all about!
