Election Reflections . . . from Pastor Larry

Prop 8 Approved by Voters

For the second time, the people of California have affirmed the God-given definition of marriage with a clear and strong majority vote. I thank God for you and for people throughout the state who exercised their constitutional responsibility and voted their convictions regarding marriage. Pastoral leaders and others made great sacrifices, gave priority to this issue and worked together to motivate and equip the Church. God defined marriage at the beginning of time: “God created man in his own image . . . male and female he created them.” (Gen. 1:27) Who on earth has the right to change this? The states of Arizona and Florida passed a similar resolution to protect marriage.

Be alert and aware . . . there will be further challenges ahead. As my friend Brad Dacus from Pacific Justice Institute said, “There still exists a virtual mandate to have all textbooks and school curriculum be homosexual- and transsexual-friendly.” Leaders of the public educational system are already hard at work to implement this. But as we come together and vote our convictions, we can overcome what I consider a very evil agenda for our children in the future.

Pray for Our President-Elect and Our Nation

Barack Obama has publicly and openly declared himself as a baptized follower of Christ. Begin praying now for our President-elect, Barack Obama, and let God’s Word instruct you.

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1 Tim. 2:1-2)

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. For he is God's servant to do you good. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. (Rom. 13:1,4)

Here's what I prayed this morning for our new President-elect . . .

Dear Lord,

I pray for Barack Obama . . .

>That he will personally seek to live a Christ-centered and righteous life.

>That he will humbly acknowledge that the overwhelming responsibility to lead this nation is God-given.
>That he will daily seek Your will and the counsel of God’s Word in exercising the office of president of the United States.

In Christ’s name, amen.

I’d also like to encourage you to pray daily for President Bush in his last weeks in office, as he passes the mantle of leadership ... and for our nation as it faces change in the weeks and months ahead.

Cornerstone Connects with Calvary

I’ll be at Calvary Community this coming Sunday, November 9th, at the Missions counter. Pastor Shawn will mention something about me and Cornerstone Network and invite people to come and greet me and some board members and learn more about the ministry of Cornerstone. This is a wonderful privilege and opportunity to connect with the Calvary Community family. If you're there on Sunday, I encourage you to stop by and say hello.
